Marketing skill sets do not equate to marketing talent, cultural fit and the results you strive for.
This message is crucial to C-leaders and business owners who need marketing talent to drive the customer experience and the sales growth that results. I have shared this consequence earlier this year, along with a choice for a bridge to hiring success, but sometimes it resonates at a deeper personal level when the speaker is one of our own. This quote is from the Austin Business Journal slide show announcing the 2015 Entrepreneurs of the Year.
“Hiring the wrong people who didn’t fit the culture was my biggest mistake”, Eric Long said. “Just because someone has the right work experience and looks good on paper, it doesn’t mean that they are the right cultural fit. I think hiring decisions are one of the most important decisions and entrepreneur has to make. Don’t rush, get infatuated and hire the wrong candidate culturally. Nobody bats a thousand in hiring, so when you make the wrong hire culturally, it is in both the candidate’s and the company’s best interest to quickly part ways.”
Look beyond the applicant tracking software output. Engage a fractional chief marketing officer to not only deliver results while you are recruiting but who can also serve as a bridge to finding that cultural fit who will grow and deliver sustainable results.
